Station situation
Pembrey Wendy station is on the hills above and behind the well-know Pembrey Sands/Pendine Sands beaches. The area is popular with sailors, windsurfers, kite buggies, land yachts, and so on. The station location is actually Ferryside, as up on the hill there, we could get clean winds in all directions, whereas down on the beach, this is not possible.
For detailed location, see the linked map.
OS Grid ref: SN372037
Altitude: 33ft (10m)
Interpreting Readings
There is no particular wind direction that is critical to the general use of the station. The anemometer is approx 40 feet above ground level, and is in clear air for most directions.
The station reads out in Knots and Beaufort Force, rather than in MPH, like all our coastal stations. This is because most sea and beach users are happier with those readings. more...
Pilot Notes
The local club for Hang and Paragliders is the South West Wales HG and PG Club., but we have no HG or PG site information for this area, except that there is a 300ft SW takeoff with no carryup at the farm where the station is situated, and the farmer, Dylan Jones, will welcome visiting pilots. Contact him on 07977-749-468.
Across the bay, of course, is the famous Rhossili HG and PG site, which takes Westerly winds.
