Station situation
Exmouth Wendy station is on the premises of Waterfront Sports, Exmouth seafront, and is used primarily by sailors and windsurfers.
For detailed location, see the linked map.
OS Grid ref: SY002804
Altitude: 33ft (10m)
Interpreting Readings
There is no particular wind direction that is critical to the general use of the station, but it is most use in onshore winds, ranging from NW through W to SW, where it seems to read fairly accurately.
However, the anemometer is sheltered by cliffs behind the premises that prevent accurate readings in winds ranging from NNE through E to SE - the whole Easterly half of the compass, really. Therefore, it is recommended that the station bob ONLY used in winds from the Westerly half of the compass.
We are trying to obtain a new location for the weather heads higher up, which will read true in all directions.
The station anemometer is some 35 feet AMSL at most. It reads out in Knots and Beaufort Force, rather than in MPH, like all our coastal stations. This is because most sea and beach users are happier with those readings more...
