Station Situation
Parlick Wendy station is on the radio mast about 300 yards East of Longridge Golf Club, and Longridge Fell, East of Preston, Lancs. The Parlick site is a little way to the North, used by Hang Gliders, and Paragliders, who belong to the Pennine Soaring Association, who should be contacted before flying a Hang or Paraglider in the area. The Parlick site is also used by model flyers, I understand. For detailed location, see the linked map.|OS Grid ref:

Interpreting Readings
The actual site at Parlick takes many wind directions, from Easterly round through South to Westerly - but we have no precise information. The Wendy station is not in an ideal location, but it is the nearest place we could obtain a site. Nearby. The Wendy is at a height of 800ft AMSL, whereas Parlick is some 1300ft, so winds on Parlick will often be higher than the station readout in stable conditions. Local users have memorised the differences - but we don't have the information to hand. When flying Pendle, which is further to the East, and is much higher, take care in Easterly winds. Sometimes wave effects make the winds at Longridge much lighter than at Pendle, but sometimes the wave comes down to 800ft in the lee of Pendle, and the Wendy then reads much higher speeds than on Pendle. Use the stations at Wether Fell and Nont Sarahs as a check. The anemometer is approx 60 feet above ground level, and is in clear air for most directions. Because it is well back from any hill edge, it reads the true windspeed in the area, NOT the "compression" or "venturi" effects. more...
Pilot Notes
Because of its situation, the Wendy station will read the winds you experience once you have taken off and climbed out of the compression band in front of the hill.
